Your Birth Plan

There are various things to consider before you set off to hospital, in fact, there are many things to think about long before you set off.

Here you will find a list of the things you need to consider.

  • Where would you like to give birth?
  • Home? Hospital? Birthing centre?
  • What kind of delivery would you like?
  • In bed? In water? Active? A caesarean section?
  • Who would you like to be present at the birth?
  • Husband? Partner? Friend? Mother (bear in mind that many hospitals restrict birth partners to two.
  • What delivery position would you like to be in?
  • Sitting? Standing? Squatting?
  • What pain relief methods would you prefer?
  • Pethidine? Epidural? Gas and air? Tens? No pain relief?
  • After giving birth would you like an injection to speed up the delivery of the placenta or would you like to do this naturally?
  • How do you feel about an assisted birth if things don’t go to plan?
  • Forceps? Vontouse? Ceasarean section?
  • Would you like your baby placed to you skin to skin after birth?
  • To the breast? On your stomach?
  • Who would you like to cut the umbilical cord?
  • Are you happy for student nurses, midwifes or doctors to be present
  • Any thing else?
